Who Else Wants To Know About Rug Hooking?
Many of us are interested in finding a new hobby. With the introduction of the Internet more and more people are spending hours each week online. It can be refreshing to turn off the monitor, get away from the software games and do something with your hands. Rug hooking is a fun and relaxing hobby which allows you to create something beautiful and useful.
At some point in their lives almost everyone has been in the home of someone who has a handmade rug. The intricate detail of it along with the colorful design pattern never ceases to amaze. Realizing that someone actually made it all by themselves can be very surprising. What’s even more surprising is that with just a few supplies, limited instruction and some practice anyone can master rug hooking and create a work of art too.
If you are brand new to this hobby it’s probably wise to not jump into making a large rug immediately. It can discouraging if you are just learning rug hooking and you realize how much effort you need to put forth to make a large rug. Instead it’s a great idea to work on something smaller, such as a wall hanging. The same techniques are used as in rug hooking and you’ll have a completed project in just a few short hours. Once you do this and see if you truly do enjoy it you can then undertake a larger, more detailed pattern.
The essential tool involved in this craft looks remarkably like a crochet hook. It does differ a bit though and it’s really important that you find a rug hooking tool that feels comfortable for you. They do vary in price a bit, and although you certainly don’t have to purchase the most expensive tool, you will want one that is well-made so it will last.
You really can’t begin any project like this without a pattern. Patterns are available in many places. You can purchase rug hooking patterns at all craft stores and you can actually find many online for free. Once you know the desired finished size of your rug hooking project, you can choose a pattern that contains the colors and design you find appealing.
As you get more involved with this fun and rewarding hobby you’ll probably feel confident enough to start designing your own patterns. Many people who have been rug hooking for several years realize that it’s not terribly complicated to work on a pattern themselves. There are even computer software programs for rug hooking that contain pattern makers. This can be ideal for someone who wants to incorporate someone’s name or a date into the rug.
